Expensology your free online personal money management assistant

EXPENSOLOGY is a FREE personal money management web application designed to help you discover where your money is going and do a little personal budget planning to help you get ahead.  Unlike other online personal finance tools, Expensology is meant to be completely manual. Expenses must be entered on a regular basis by the user in order to be effective. By entering your expenses manually, Expensology keeps the user mindful of the money he or she or the family as a whole is spending on a day-to-day basis. Other personal finance managers may download this data automatically from your bank, but Expensology is built on the idea that this manual interaction is necessary and beneficial.

Main Features

The Expense Tracker is the heart of Expensology. This is where you will enter your expenses on a daily basis -- or as often as possible. You can always of course, go back and enter past expenses. Forgot to record the money you put in your gas tank last Monday? No problem. Just choose last Mondays date when entering the expense and Expensology will put it where it belongs.

Expensologys Personal Expense Tracker can help you visualize your spending with several graphing options. When you create spending categories, you assign each of them a color that is then used in your graphs.

Entering an expense into the Personal Expense Tracker could not be easier. Simply enter the name of the spender defaults to the logged in user, the subcategory the expense belongs to, the amount and an optional description.

The Bills Manager is a simple tool to help you organize and keep track of your bills. The Bills Manager is mostly meant for bills that you pay manually. You recieve a paper bill or an email from the company, you can enter the bill name, the amount and the due date into the Manager. When you enter a bill, a reminder is automatically created for 3 days before the bill is due. That 3 day default can be modified under your user profile. You can also cancel the automatic creation of those reminders or silence them individually. In addition, you can manually create further reminders for those bills. Want to be reminded of the bill on payday? Just set a reminder.

When a bill is marked as paid, it automatically gets entered into the expense register. Modifying a Bill that you have previously created is simple. Change the name, change the date from a pop-up calendar. You can also manage the reminders for a Bill and create new ones from this screen.

The Expensology Budget Tool ties it all together. Once you have begun to track where you are spending your money in the Expense Tracker the Budget Tool will let you know how close you are to spending limits that you set on each of your major spending categories. These spending limits are set on each category on a long-term basis, but in the Budget Tool you can make adjustments that apply only to the current month.

The Budget Tool will also look ahead to bills you have added in the Bill Manager. Trying to adjust your Bills budget downward to give you more money in your Food budget? Well the Budget Tool knows that you have a $200 credit card bill due in 5 days that will bring you closer to that Bills spending limit. Guess you will have to move the money from your Entertainment budget.

The Expensology Debt Watcher allows you to keep track of your outstanding debt. Just enter the balance on the debt, the interest rate and the typical due date. Enter the amount you typically pay per month and Debt Watcher will automatically create an entry in the Bill Manager which in turn will remind you of the upcoming payment due.
Edit the balance on your debts as you make payments and the Debt Manager can keep track of your payments and graph your progress. The Debt Manager encourages "power payments" on your high interest debt and alerts you when your progress slows.
